Corey Kluber and Gio Urshela Scheduled To Rehab In Somerset On Tuesday

Bridgewater, New Jersey – The New York Yankees have currently scheduled RHP Corey Kluber and INF Gio Urshela to start in Tuesday night’s game for the Double-A Somerset Patriots. The Patriots will take on the Akron RubberDucks (Cleveland Indians) at 7:05 pm at TD Bank Ballpark.

Kluber made an earlier rehab start for the Patriots on August 12th and another for Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre on August 17th.

Prior to a right shoulder injury that landed him on the injured list, Kluber was 4-3 with a 3.04 ERA and 55 strikeouts over 10 starts with the Yankees. He threw a no-hitter against the Texas Rangers on May 19th. It was the first of his career and the first no-hitter for the Yankees since David Cone blanked the Montreal Expos in 1999.

The Alabama native has won two Cy Youngs (2014 and 2017) and is also a three-time MLB All-Star (2016-2018). He recorded a 20-win season in 2018 and has three 18-win seasons in his career (2014, 2016, 2018). Kluber led all of Major League baseball in wins (18), ERA (2.25), complete games (5), shutouts (3), and WHIP (0.87) in his 2018 Cy Young season.

He made his MLB debut with the Indians against the Oakland A’s on September 1, 2011 at the age of 25. He was acquired by the Yankees through free agency on January 27, 2021. Kluber carries a career 102-61 record, 3.15 ERA and 1,517 strikeouts over 1,396 innings across 219 games (214 started) for the Indians, Rangers and Yankees at the Major League level.

Urshela comes off a hot start in his Somerset debut on Sunday night in Altoona. He went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored to help lead to a 6-2 win.

Urshela was placed on the 10-day injured list for a left hamstring strain on August 3rd. He was hitting .274 with 11 home runs and 41 RBI over 84 games this season.

In 2019, Urshela hit .314 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI in 132 games played. He followed up with a .298 average, six home runs and 30 RBI in the shortened 2020 season.

He made his MLB debut on June 9, 2015 with the Indians against the A’s. The Yankees acquired the Columbian infielder in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays on May 9, 2018 for a player to be named later.

Urshela carries a .273 average with 175 runs scored, 374 hits, 77 doubles, 46 home runs and 184 RBI for his MLB career with Cleveland, Toronto and New York.
