Hickory, NC- The Crawdads scored early and often on Saturday night, defeating the Augusta GreenJackets 10-1 at LP Frans Stadium
The Crawdads sent eight men to the plate in their first two times at-bat, jumping out to a 4-0 lead.
Jacob Johnson, making just his second start of the season for Hickory, pitched into the third inning before giving the baseball to Moises Morales.
Morales (8-2) was more than good enough tonight, holding Augusta (57-48, 22-17) to a single run on four hits, while striking out four batters over five innings to claim his eighth win of the season.
The win for Morales gives him the team lead for a Hickory (63-41, 29-11) club that has clinched a split in the series with a chance to win the six-game set tomorrow.
In the middle innings, the Crawdads continued to produce runs, getting a solo homer from Yolfran Castillo in the fourth, followed by a solo shot from Deward Tovar in the fifth.
Castillo's blast was his sixth of the year, part of a two-hit night for the Venezuelan shortstop.
Tovar's clout was his fourteenth of 2026, a team high for a club that collected eleven hits in tonight's contest.
The ‘Dads would make the result academic with a five-run fifth, highlighted by a bases clearing single from Pablo Guerrero. Guerrero would advance to second on the throw home that was cut off by Augusta pitcher Cristobal Abreu.
As Abreu spotted Guerrero trying to advance, he uncorked a throw that rolled deep into the outfield, scoring Guerrero from second, giving Hickory a 10-0 lead.
Paulino Santana continued his torrid run this week, collecting two hits and a walk, a stolen base and three runs scored. In the past eleven games, Santana is batting a blistering .396 (19-48) with five doubles, two triples, three homers, eleven RBI and fourteen runs scored.
The win for Hickory gives the club a 6.5 game lead on both Augusta and Charleston, as the regular season approaches its final four weeks.
Luis Arestigueta took the loss for Augusta, who will send Brody Fowler to the mound against Hickory starter Jesus Lafalaise. The series wrap up begins tomorrow at 2pm from the Frans.
