After seven scoreless innings, the two teams combined to score five runs in the eighth. With one out in the top of the frame, Brendon Sanger scored on a throwing error to break the deadlock. Bo Way followed with an RBI single off Kelvin Vasquez (2-0), his third of the night, to double the lead.
However, Mississippi (15-19) responded in the bottom of the eighth. Following a one-out hit-by-pitch and a walk, Ryan Clark (1-2) entered and gave up a two-run triple to Cleuluis Rondon. Rondon scored the go-ahead run two batters later on a throwing error.
The BayBears (15-18) put runners on the corners with back-to-back two out singles in the ninth, but Adam McCreery induced a groundout to earn the save.
