Crooked Numbers Carry C's To Victory

EVERETT, WA – After 12 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to Sunday, the Canadians broke out for four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to beat the Everett AquaSox (SEA) 6-3 Wednesday night at Everett Memorial Stadium. Relievers Connor O’Halloran and Jack Eshleman combined on the final six innings to keep the Frogs at bay.

Following a 13-run, 16-hit attack last night, the Frogs kept swinging it in the early frames. They got to starter Daniel Guerra for two hits in the first before a double play ended the threat then added a lead-off double and a two-out single in the third to take a 1-0 lead.

Their advantage would be short-lived. Peyton Williams started the fourth with a double and was joined on base by a hit by pitch before newcomer Gable Mitchell tied the game with a double. Edward Duran came up next and singled past the drawn-in infield to score another run then the Everett left fielder misplayed the roller to allow another run to come home and Duran to reach third. Jean Joseph completed the four-run frame with a sacrifice fly that made it 4-1.

Guerra’s night ended after three innings and brought O’Halloran (W, 1-0) into the game to begin the fourth. He stranded two runners on base in that stanza before Vancouver added two more in the fifth. #17 Blue Jays prospect Ty Southisene – acquired in the Kevin Gausman deal with Chicago earlier this week – legged out an infield hit then Jake Casey doubled him home. Williams moved Casey to third with a groundout and Ryan Sprock’s ground ball to third base led to another run on a fielder’s choice to put the Canadians up 6-1.

O’Halloran went on to work 2.2 innings, departing with two outs in the sixth after surrendering a walk, a balk and an RBI single that brought the Frogs within four. On came Eshleman (S, 1) whose lone blemishes were a one-out solo homer and a two-out walk in the eighth en route to a 10-out save.

With the win, the series is tied one game apiece. The Canadians are one game back of Everett and Spokane while sitting two games behind first place Eugene with 28 games remaining in the regular season. Vancouver needs to win the second half outright to make its fourth postseason appearance in six years as a High-A affiliate.

The C’s send Landen Maroudis to the slope tomorrow night opposite veteran righty Taylor Dollard. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on the C’s Broadcast Network.
