Outfield prospect ties game with bases-loaded homer, also triples

Mesa 11, Scottsdale 10 A game-tying grand slam from Andy Weber powered the Solar Sox in an 11-run come-from-behind victory over the Scorpions on Monday. The Cubs infield prospect mashed his second Fall League home run to right field in the sixth as part of a five-run frame for Mesa.

A game-tying grand slam from Andy Weber powered the Solar Sox in an 11-run come-from-behind victory over the Scorpions on Monday. The Cubs infield prospect mashed his second Fall League home run to right field in the sixth as part of a five-run frame for Mesa. Weber also collected his fourth triple of the campaign and scored twice – bringing his AFL average to .333 with a 1.027 OPS.

A couple of Marlins prospects -- JJ Bleday (No. 5) and Will Banfield – also found the seats. Bleday connected on his fourth in the AFL, a two-run homer, while Banfield plated three with his first of the campaign.

Every Scottsdale starter contributed at least one hit with seven of the nine collecting a pair. Matt Wallner (MIN No. 14) and Rays outfielder Jordan Qsar went yard. More »

Peoria 7, Glendale 4

Logan O’Hoppe turned around a 97-mph fastball in the opening frame and launched it beyond the wall in left-center for his second dinger of the campaign. The No. 11 Phillies prospect sports a .455 on-base percentage and leads all catchers in the Fall League with 14 RBIs.

Drew Lugbauer (Braves) also found the seats for the Javelinas, mashing his fifth tater in Arizona. On the other side, James Outman (LAD 27) continued his red-hot streak at the plate with another multihit performance. The outfielder finished 3-for-5 with a triple and a pair of runs scored to bring his average to .360. More »

Surprise 4, Salt River 3

Jackson Rutledge led the Saguaros to a league-best 14th victory. The third-ranked Nats prospect allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and a pair of walks while fanning two over 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander posted a 7.68 ERA in 36 1/3 innings between High-A Wilmington, Class-A Fredericksburg and the club’s complex league in 2021. He sports a 5.79 ERA with 16 strikeouts and eight walks over 18 2/3 innings in Arizona.

Ivan Johnson (CIN 16) continued his torrid run in the desert with his sixth long ball of the campaign – a solo shot in the opening frame. Elijah Dunham (NYY 24) tripled, doubled and scored twice.

For Salt River, D-backs’ Buddy Kennedy connected on his second Fall League dinger as part of a two-knock game. More »
