AMARILLO, TX (August 28, 2026) -- The Amarillo Sod Poodles (31-24, 67-56) defeated the Corpus Christi Hooks (27-28, 58-66), 9-1, on Friday night at HODGETOWN. The Soddies received a stellar pitching performance from the staff as they went on to win their sixth out of their last seven games.
Brian Curley looked sharp on the Amarillo mound from first pitch on tonight as he got off to a good start with a 1-2-3 inning to open play, picking up a pair of strikeouts along the way.

Another scoreless inning from the Amarillo starter was followed by a Druw Jones triple that got past the diving Corpus Christi left fielder to lead off the bottom of the second. Danny Serretti then hit a fly ball down the left field line that was just deep enough for Jones to test the outfielder’s arm and did so successfully, scoring on the sac fly to add on to the lead.
Curley continued his dominance by striking out the side in the third and was also able to work around a single and a walk in the fourth, inducing an inning-ending double play to keep the shutout intact.
In the bottom of the fourth, Avery Owusu-Asiedu hit a laser to left field on an 0-2 count that cleared the fence for a solo shot, his 11th in a Sod Poodles uniform.

With two outs later in the frame, Ben McLaughlin lined one the other way to plate Angel Ortiz to cap the two-run Amarillo fourth.
AOA plated another in the following inning, singling home Jean Walters for his second knock of the evening to make it a 5-0 ballgame.
As Curley’s night came to an end with nine strikeouts to his line, Dawson Brown entered the game in the sixth for the first of three innings and gave up his only run on a Tyler Whitaker single that brought home Jason Schiavone who was hit by a pitch earlier in the frame.
Brown continued to mow down hitters through the eighth, giving way to a four-run Sod Poodles inning that featured a run scoring on an error, McLaughlin’s second RBI single of the game, and a two-run Matt O’Neill double that he lined into the right-center field gap.

POSTGAME NOTES
BOMBS AW-AOA: Avery Owusu-Asiedu hit a 107 mile-per-hour, 409-foot home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning for his 11th of the season with Amarillo...having only made his team debut on August 11, the total ties Manuel Pena for the franchise record for the most homers in a single calendar month from the latter’s output in May of this year.
GRAN TORIN-O: Cristofer Torin saw his streak of six consecutive multi-hit efforts come to an end tonight, but still reached base twice thanks to a walk in his last plate appearance...he has now reached base at least twice in seven straight contests, which is tied for the longest active span in the Texas League with Justin Thomas Jr. (CC) and Justin Riemer (MID).
