Surprise 2, Glendale 1
It was a banner day for the Houston Astros organization all around. While the big league club knotted up the World Series with the second no-hitter in Fall Classic history, one of the Astros' prospects continued his stellar showing in the Arizona Fall League. Third-base prospect Will Wagner has been opening eyes at the plate, and his latest big swing propelled the Saguaros to a late-inning win. Wagner's second AFL homer was well-timed and crushed, hit at 103 mph and traveling 419 feet, per Trackman, off Francis Peguero (Twins) to break a 1-1 tie in the eighth. Wagner, an 18th-round pick out of Liberty in 2021, is hitting .349 with a 1.161 OPS in the AFL. Right-hander Rhett Kouba (Astros) carried the load on the mound as Surprise became the first AFL team to 15 wins. Kouba started the game with four one-hit innings, striking out two and walking one. After Dodgers' No. 5 prospect Andy Pages tied the game with a sacrifice fly off, three Saguaros relievers secured the final nine outs to make Wagner's homer stand up. The Desert Dogs' defeat came despite a solid four-inning start by Chase Solesky (White Sox) and three hits from Twins No. 12 prospect Austin Martin. More »

Peoria 7, Salt River 1

A pair of Mariners pitching prospects led the way on the mound and the Javelinas used a five-run fifth inning rally to sprint back to .500 (12-12). Seattle’s eighth-ranked prospect Adam Macko and 15th-ranked Bryan Woo combined to strike out seven over six innings, with Woo punching out five over the first three scoreless innings for his second win of the Fall League. It was the latest strong effort by Woo, whose 0.84 ERA is third-best among qualified pitchers on the circuit. He's struck out 16 batters in 10 2/3 innings over five starts. The Javelinas’ lineup supported him with a team effort, with five different players driving in a run. Guardians' No. 11 prospect Angel Martinez opened the scoring with a run-scoring single in the first, and Yasel Antuna (WAS No. 19) and Jose Caballero (Mariners), socked RBI knocks to highlight Peoria’s rally in the fifth. Caballero also stole two bases and scored twice. For the Rafters, top Rockies prospect Zac Veen reached base four times. More »
