DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Matt Hall lost his perfect game in the eighth inning of Lakeland's 6-0 win over the Daytona Tortugas Wednesday morning at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in front of 1,563 fans on Summer Splash Camp Day. It was the sixth time the Tortugas have been shut out this season.
LHP Matt Hall retired the first 23 batters faced before Chris Okey punched a single inside the first base bag with two outs in the ninth. The Tortugas managed just two baserunners total, as Hall tossed 8 1/3 shutout frames for the win.
Lakeland scored an unearned run in the fourth inning and cushioned their lead with a two run homer from Will Allen in the sixth against Tortugas starter RHP Wendolyn Bautista. Lakeland then rinsed and repeated, with an unearned run in the sixth and a two run homer in the ninth from Luis Valdes, off RHP Tanner Rainey.
The Tortugas will look to salvage the series Thursday night with NASCAR Night and Thirsty Thursday at Radiology Associates Field and Jackie Robinson Ballpark. RHP Wyatt Strahan (0-1, 10.29) will make his third start of the year for Daytona. First pitch is at 7:05 PM with coverage beginning at 6:50 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
