MOBILE, Ala. (July 18, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, had numerous chances to add to an early lead but ultimately took a 7-3 loss to the Biloxi Shuckers in the series opener Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The BayBears (40-54 overall, 13-13 second half) had baserunners in all nine innings and runners in scoring position in seven frames. All nine players in the lineup reached on nine hits, nine walks, and two hit-by-pitches. However, Mobile went 0-for-11 with RISP after a two-run Jack Kruger single in the first and left a season-high 14 stranded.
Andrew Wantz tossed five scoreless innings, despite allowing three hits and three walks. He struck out five batters and did not factor in the decision.
However, four straight batters reached against Brett Hanewich (0-4) in the sixth and three came in to score to put Biloxi in front 3-2. The Shuckers (57-39, 16-10) added four more runs in the seventh, including a two-run C.J. Hinojosa homer.
Cameron Roegner (3-3) earned the win with five scoreless innings of relief. The BayBears plated a run with a bases-loaded walk in the ninth, but Devin Williams recorded the final two outs to earn his third save.
