Portland erases a 6-0 first inning deficit

Hartford, Conn- The Portland Sea Dogs (12-8) were down 6-0 after the first inning, but scored 11 of 12 runs during innings 2-thru-4, picking up a 12-11 win over the Hartford Yard Goats (8-14) on Tuesday night at Dunkin Donuts Park.

Rafael Devers tied a career-high with 5 hits, going 5-for-5 with 2 homers and 4 RBI. Devers provided the game-winning RBI with his sixth-inning homer off losing pitcher Konner Wade (L, 1-2). Devers snapped an 8-8 game in the fourth inning, greeting Wade with a three-run bomb to left field.

Portland's bullpen combo of Williams Jerez (W, 1-0) and Ty Buttrey (Save #2) worked 5.1 innings, allowing one unearned run. Buttrey struck out Dom Nuñez to end the game, as Nunez represented the winning run.

Hartford took a 6-0 lead in the first inning, knocking Jacob Dahlstrand out of the game after 2/3 innings pitched. Taylor Grover relieved Dahlstrand and worked three innings on six hits and four runs.
Portland began the comeback trail in the second inning, scoring four times off James Wynkoop (ND, 3.1 IP, 12 H, 10 R, 8 ER). Nick Longhi knocked in the first run with a single and Danny Bethea (3-for-5) delivered a two-run double. Danny Mars provided an RBI single.
Longhi and Tzu-Wei Lin (extended hitting streak to 14 games) delivered RBIs in the third to cut Hartford's lead to 8-6. Devers, Mars and Sturgeon knocked in all five runs to give Portland their first lead in the fourth.
Portland seeks their fourth straight win on Wednesday morning, wrapping up their six-game roadtrip at Dunkin Donuts Park. RHP Kevin McAvoy (0-2, 7.71) makes his fourth start for the Sea Dogs. Hartford counters with Yency Almonte (0-2, 1.52) in a 10:30 AM first pitch.
