Devers homers in 'Dogs 7-4 loss at Binghamton

Barfield and Olt add run-scoring doubles

Binghamton, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (30-19) scored seven unanswered runs, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (23-27), 7-4, Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Rafael Devers went 3-for-4 with a 2-run homer in the loss.

Binghamton, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (30-19) scored seven unanswered runs, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (23-27), 7-4, Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Rafael Devers went 3-for-4 with a 2-run homer in the loss.

RHP Mickey Jannis (4-1) worked six strong innings on four hits, two runs, no walks and seven strikeouts to earn the win for Binghamton. Portland took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer by Devers (3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI).
 
Binghamton scored six runs off Teddy Stankiewicz (L, 2-3) in five innings, giving the righty his third loss of the year. Champ Stuart tied the game with a two-run double in the second inning. The Rumble Ponies took the lead for good in the third inning on a run-scoring double by Cody Decker, who scored on a wild pitch.
 
In the fifth, David Thompson (3-for-4) and Colton Plaia provided RBI singles, with Decker knocking in the seventh run on a sacrifice fly.
 
Portland made some noise in the ninth inning off the Ponies bullpen. Jeremy Barfield and Mike Olt delivered back-to-back RBI doubles, but Corey Burns retired the final two batters to earn his third save of the year.
LHP Jake Drehoff made his season debut for the Sea Dogs, allowing one run over three innings pitched.
The Sea Dogs and Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets affiliate) play a doubleheader on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium beginning at 5:35 PM. RHP Travis Lakins (0-2, 9.82) takes on RHP Seth Lugo (0-1, 4.50) in game one. In the nightcap, RHP Jacob Dahlstrand (3-1, 6.06) starts opposite LHP PJ Conlon (5-3, 3.47)
