Diaz delivers walk-off home run

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Pinch hitter Lewin Diaz crushed an 11th inning walk-off home run to lead the Fort Myers Miracle past the Daytona Tortugas, 5-4, Sunday afternoon in Fort Myers.
For the first time in the four-game series, the Miracle scored first. With one out in the second, Taylor Grzelakowski doubled. Caleb Hamilton then hit a ground ball to short and when the ball was fired into the Daytona dugout, Grzelakowski scored. Nelson Molina followed with an RBI single and the Miracle had a 2-0 lead.
The score stayed 2-0 until the seventh. With two on and two out, Mitch Nay hammered a game-tying double to left.
Tied 2-2 in the tenth, each team pushed across a run. In the top of the inning, Daytona took a short lived 3-2 lead on a wild pitch. The Miracle evened the score at three on a Travis Blankenhorn single.  
In the top of the eleventh, Daytona again took a one-run lead on a Daniel Sweet sacrifice fly. That set the stage for Diaz. Pinch hitting for Alex Perez, he launched an 0-1 fastball over the wall in right to set off a raucous celebration inside Hammond Stadium.
Clark Beeker worked out of trouble in each of the first two innings before settling in, tossing 4 1/3 shutout innings. Beeker scattered five hits and struck out four. He has now pitched 9 2/3 scoreless innings. Logan Lombana (2-0) picked up his second win of the series.
The Miracle took three of four from first place Daytona.
After an off day Monday, the Miracle begin a three-game series Tuesday night in Tampa against the Tarpons, the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
