Díaz Dominates, Wisdom Whacks Three Homers in 5-1 Win

TACOMA, WA (June 27, 2026) — The Tacoma Rainiers (2-3/35-45) beat the Round Rock Express (3-2/34-46) 5-1 on Saturday night at Cheney Stadium off the back of a career night by Patrick Wisdom and dominant outing by Jhonathan Díaz. Wisdom drove in all five of Tacoma’s runs by smacking a career-high three home runs in the contest. Díaz carried a perfect game into the sixth inning, allowing only one run across a season-high 7.0 innings of work while striking out a season-best eight batters.
Tacoma got the scoring started in the bottom of the second when Patrick Wisdom (17) destroyed a leadoff home run over the left-field seats, giving the Rainiers an early 1-0 lead.
Tacoma extended the lead in the third inning. With one out, Ryan Bliss reached base on a throwing error by Round Rock third baseman Diego Castillo and advanced to second when Miles Mastrobuoni punched a single up the middle. Wisdom (18) struck for the second time with a three-run blast out of the stadium. The home run traveled 449 feet, the longest home run by a Rainiers hitter this year, and made it 4-0.
Wisdom (19) did it again when he led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo blast to left field. His third home run of the game gave the Rainiers a 5-0 lead.
Jhonathan Díaz sat down the first 17 batters he faced in the contest,but Round Rock broke up the perfect game bid in the bottom of the fifth inning when Keyber Rodriguez (4) crushed a two-out, solo shot over the left field wall to break up the perfect game bid, making it 5-1.
Díaz was relieved by Cole Wilcox in the top of the eighth inning after a leadoff single by Austin Wynns. The southpaw surrendered the ball after tossing 7.0 plus innings of one-run baseball, allowing only three hits while striking out eight. Wilcox got Gilberto Celestino to ground into a double play and ended the frame by getting Cooper Johnson to ground out to short.
Wilcox finished the game by keeping the Express off the board in the ninth inning. He faced the minimum as the Rainiers secured a 5-1 victory on Saturday night.
The Rainiers look to secure a series split in the finale on Sunday afternoon. RHP Carson Fulmer will make his second start of the series. First pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m.

INF Patrick Wisdom crushed his 17th, 18th, and 19th home runs of the season on Saturday night, marking a new single-game career-high…he finished 3-for-3 with three home runs, five RBI, a walk, and three runs scored…he is the first Tacoma hitter to have three-homer game since Taylor Trammell on June 22, 2023, at El Paso and the second PCL hitter to do so this season, joining Oklahoma City’s James Tibbs III (April 4 at Las Vegas)…it marked Wisdom’s fourth multi-home run game this season, the most in the league and tied for the most in Triple-A with Norfolk’s José Barrero and Charlotte’s Jacob Gonzalez…it’s the most multi-home run games in a season by a Rainiers hitter since Alex Liddi had five in 2011…his 19 home runs are the second-most in the PCL this season and tied for the second-most by a Rainiers hitter through the team's first 80 games, trailing only Jake Scheiner who had 20 in 2023…Wisdom’s second home run traveled 449 feet, the longest home run at Cheney Stadium this year and the longest by a Rainiers hitter since Jake Slaughter cleared the batter’s eye on July 1, 2024, against Salt Lake.
LHP Jhonathan Díaz allowed only one run across a season-high 7.0 innings pitched Saturday and struck out a season-high eight batters en route to his sixth win…he sat down the first seventeen batters he faced, the longest perfect game bid in Triple-A this season and the longest perfect game bid by Tacoma since taking one into the seventh inning on May 25, 2025, at El Paso (walk after 6.1 perfect innings)…it’s Díaz’s third quality start in June, tied for the most in the PCL and the second-most in Triple-A in the month…it marked Tacoma’s 25th quality start of the season, the most in the minor leagues and tied for the most by a Triple-A team through the first 80 games of the season since Lehigh Valley and Salt Lake both had 25 in 2024…it’s his first game with eight strikeouts since April 23, 2025, when he struck out 10 against Sugar Land.
LHP Jhonathan Díaz and RHP Cole Wilcox combined to strike out nine Express batters without a walk in Saturday’s win…it’s Tacoma’s third game of the season with at least nine strikeouts and no walks, tied for the most such games in Triple-A this season (also: Lehigh Valley - 3)...two of Tacoma’s 0BB/9K games have come this week against Round Rock (also: June 24).
