'Dogs complete series win, 6-2 at Akron

Chavis, Dalbec, and Kent lead the way

Akron, Ohio - Michael Chavis and Bobby Dalbec each drove in three runs, leading the Portland Sea Dogs (49-68) to a 6-2 win over the Akron RubberDucks (67-52) on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. Portland took two of three in the series, their first series win in Akron since 2014.

Matt Kent (8-8) picked up his team-leading eighth win, working seven innings on just three hits, two runs, two walks, and five strikeouts. Kent was perfect in five of seven innings pitched.
Portland struck for three straight hits to the start the game off losing pitcher Jake Paulson (6-5), taking a 1-0 lead on a run-scoring single from Michael Chavis. 
Chavis delivered in the third inning, smacking a two-run double, Bobby Dalbec followed with a run-scoring double to give Portland a 4-0 lead. Chavis finished the roadtrip 14-for-25 (.550) with 2 homers and 6 RBI.
Akron cut the deficit to 4-1 in the fourth inning. Kent retired the first 10 batters but Tyler Krieger singled and scored on a double by Joe Sever. In the fifth, Andrew Calica was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded but Kent fanned Krieger to end the innings. 
Dalbec put the game away in the eighth inning, connecting on a two-out, two-run homer off Dominic DeMasi. For Dalbec, his 31 homers are tied for the most in the minors.
Trey Ball worked two perfect innings to close out the win. Portland's pitchers were perfect in seven of nine innings. 
The Sea Dogs are off on Monday night and return to action on Tuesday, opening up an eight-game homestand against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate). Lefty Kyle Hart (7-8, 3.77) takes on lefty Ryan Bollinger (7-4, 4.18) Radio coverage begins at 6:45 PM on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network. MiLB.TV starts at 7:00 PM.
