'Dogs drop series finale in Hartford, 4-1 on Sunday

Hartford, Conn. - The Hartford Yard Goats (43-44) scored three times off Mike Shawaryn (4-7) in the third inning and never looked back, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (34-53), 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Dunkin' Donuts Park.

Hartford righty Jesus Tinoco (6-7) earned his third win of the season against Portland, hurling six innings on three hits, one run, no walks and seven strikeouts. Tinoco retired the first 12 batters before Josh Ockimey's solo homer to start the fifth.
Shawaryn tied a season-high with eight strikeouts and yielded all his runs in the third inning. Mylz Jones cracked the ice with an RBI double, and Sam Hilliard delivered a two-run double to give the Goats a 3-0 lead.
Hartford added a run in the eighth inning on Dom Nuñez's sac-fly against Josh Taylor.
Matt Pierpoint pitched a perfect ninth to secure his league-leading 24th save. Logan Cozart and Mitch Horacek earned holds with scoreless innings.
Portland's Adam Lau and Daniel McGrath tossed scoreless innings of relief. 
Austin Rei and Ockimey each had two hits, as the 'Dogs had just five. 3B Michael Chavis finished 0-for-4.
The Sea Dogs are off for the Eastern League All-Star Break and return to action on Thursday, July 12th against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) from Hadlock Field. First pitch is 7:00 PM and tickets can be purchased at seadogs.com or 207-879-9500.
