KINSTON, NC - The Wood Ducks (11-14, 35-59) dropped the season finale with the Keys (10-14, 41-52) on Tuesday night by a final of 5-3. Carlos Garay and Josh Morgan had multi-hit efforts in the defeat.

Down East did not hold a lead for the series against Frederick after they opened the scoring in the second inning with two outs. With the runner going from first, a bloop single from Alex Murphy plated Glynn Davis to lead 1-0.
Brett Martin started for the Woodies and completed six innings for the third time this year despite taking the loss. Another run was plated in the fourth after a two-out walk. Davis supplied his first of three runs batted in with a double to left-center.
Frederick starter Keegan Akin matched a career-high 10 strikeouts in his seventh win of the year. The Woodies got to him in the fifth, also with two outs. Matt Lipka drew a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. He scored on Morgan's first hit of the night - a single to right-center. With a 1-2 count, Garay followed that with a double to left-center to score Morgan from first.
With the game tied at two, Martin returned tor the sixth but had a spell of bad luck. The first batter, Randolph Gassaway, flied a ball to right field that Preston Scott lost in the lights and resulted in a double. He would later score on a sac fly to center.
However the Keys weren't done yet after another two-out walk to Yermin Mercedes. Next was Davis and he clocked another double to the gap to restore the two-run lead for the Keys.
Both teams would trade a run in the eighth on another sac fly from Davis for Frederick, and an RBI single by Scott for Down East. 5-3 would be the final score after Tanner Chleborad locked down his 11th save of the year in the ninth.
The Wood Ducks enjoy a Wednesday off day before hitting the road for a doubleheader on Thursday in Myrtle Beach to open up a five-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. from TicketReturn.com Field.
