Down East's Sweep Bid Foiled by Dash Late

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - A big seventh inning for the Dash (21-16) wiped the hopes of a sweep for the Wood Ducks (20-17) on Sunday in an 11-3 defeat. Offensively, Eric Jenkins recorded his third straight multi-hit game and Andretty Cordero reached base in all four trips to the plate.
Emerson Martinez battled into the sixth inning for a no decision with three strikeouts and 96 pitches. The right-hander has now completed at least five innings in three consecutive starts.

For the first time in the series, the Dash jumped out to the lead in the first inning on a solo homer from Alex Call.
The Woodies' offense was quiet until the sixth inning and the rally kicked off with an Eric Jenkins single. He would score two batters later after Brendon Davis attempted to break for second from first and second baseman Mitch Roman misplayed Yermin Mercedes's throw. 
Later in the frame, Cordero knocked in his team-leading 12th run with two outs with a single to left field. Anderson Tejeda would follow with an RBI double and extend the Down East lead to 3-1.
The Dash would respond in the bottom half with three runs of their own, but explode for seven in the seventh inning against the Wood Ducks' bullpen. Down East was outhit for the first time in the series and snapped its five-game winning streak.
Monday the Wood Ducks enjoy an off day before returning home for a six-game home stand welcoming the Carolina Mudcats and Dash again for three games apiece.
