WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (August 6, 2019) - The Down East Wood Ducks have been the league's best team so far this season despite significant turnover, and one of the Woodies' midseason pickups, first baseman Curtis Terry, dominated last month to claim the Uncle Ray's Carolina League Player of the Month for July, the Minor League Baseball office announced on Tuesday.
The Rangers' 13th-round pick in 2015, Terry was the only Carolina League qualifier to post an OPS above 1.000, and he finished second to Frederick's Jomar Reyes in batting average with a .370 mark. Terry hit safely in 23 of 27 games in July, during which the Wood Ducks posted a 19-9 record.

Terry also paced the circuit with 37 hits, five home runs, 60 total bases and a .600 slugging percentage, while he was in the top 10 in runs (4th, 17), on-base percentage (4th, .402) and doubles (T-9th, 6).
Since joining the Wood Ducks shortly after the All-Star Break, Terry has been one of the CL's most feared hitters to the tune of a .353 batting average, which leads all qualifiers during this stretch. The Snellville, Ga., native has also socked six home runs and drove home 20 runs through his 41 High-A games.
Since returning to the Carolina League in 2017, the Wood Ducks have now claimed three Player of the Month awards. Outfielder Matt Lipka accomplished the feat in July of 2017, while the league honored infielder Josh Altmann in June of 2018.
Terry and the Wood Ducks, owners of the best record in full-season Minor League Baseball at 77-36, open a three-game home series with Carolina on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
