NOTES OF INTEREST
NECK AND NECK DOWN THE STRETCH: The Tulsa Drillers and the Springfield Cardinals have been duking it out in the second half as each club aims to claim the Texas League's North Division crown. The Drillers went 19-11 in July and 15-9 so far in August, but remain in a first-place tie with Springfield as the Cardinals have matched the Drillers with a 15-9 record in August. The final three games of the season against the Cardinals at ONEOK Field will likely decide which club will make it to the Texas League playoffs.
ON PACE TO SET THE RECORD: With just 8 games to go in the regular season, the Tulsa Drillers offense is on pace to set the franchise, single-season, home run record. The club has launched 155 home runs so far this year, putting them on pace to break the record of 164 previously set by the 2011 Drillers at some point during this final homestand.
BEATY AIMING FOR HISTORY: Speaking of records, Tulsa Drillers infielder
PITCHING STAFF STEPPING UP: After the Tulsa Drillers offense had a huge month of July, batting .298 with 47 home runs, it has been the pitching staff who has carried the club during the month of August. The Tulsa hurlers had a respectable 3.56 ERA in July, but have taken it to another level in August with a 3.27 team ERA. For the season, the Drillers are ranked second overall in the Texas League behind only the San Antonio Missions with a 3.58 ERA, while also ranking second in strikeouts (1,067), fewest home runs allowed (92), and opponent's batting average against (.244).
RECORD AGAINST OPPONENTS: When playing against the Naturals at ONEOK Field, the Drillers have tallied a solid 56-49 overall record. Against the Cardinals, the Drillers have a fairly even 56-57 record at home since 2010, but have dominated with a 9-2 record so far this year against their rival.
