Drive's Win Streak Snapped in Rain-Shortened Contest

The Greenville Drive snapped their winning streak with an 11-4 loss to the Hudson Valley Renegades in game two. The Renegades improves to 48-54, while the Drive falls to 46-55. In the second-half standings, Greenville is now 20-18, while Hudson Valley is 18-20.

David McCann's first High-A at-bat resulted in a three-run homer, putting the Renegades ahead quickly before the Drive got to hit. Antonio Anderson’s hot bat continued with an RBI single in the second, 3-1, for the Drive.

However, a two-run lead rapidly jumped to eight after the Renegades found their rhythm to put the Drive in the largest deficit they’ve seen since their 17-6 loss to the Frederick Keys on July 19. A run in the third inning placed Hudson Valley at 4-1, but a five-run surge, fueled by an error and three RBI singles, blew the game open to 9-1.

A long sac-fly for Jackson Lovich drove in the tenth run of the night for the Renegades, taking advantage of a bases-loaded opportunity.

A wild pitch gave Gerardo Rodriguez the green light to score, 10-2, in the sixth to break the three-inning scoreless streak, but the Renegades got it back in the seventh, 11-2. A bases-loaded sac fly for Isaiah Jackson and an RBI double by Maximus Martin made it 11-4 in the bottom of the frame.

Due to rain and surrounding lightning, the game was called before the eighth inning, finalizing the 11-4 win for Hudson Valley.

The Renegades mustered up 13 hits tonight. Josue Gonzalez went 3-for-4, while Lovich and Eric Genther went 2-for-4. Lovich also got three RBIs and two runs. Genther had one RBI and three runs scored. McCann's big swing brought in three runs.

The Drive collected seven runs in game two, going 2-for 12 with runners on second and third. Rodriguez had the only multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 night, including a run and a walk.

Phillips continues without a win, shouldering his sixth of the season after giving up six runs on six hits. Hudson Valley reliever Jose Rodriguez earned his first win, allowing just two to score on a pair of hits in two innings.

The Greenville Drive prepares for game three tomorrow versus the Hudson Valley Renegades with first pitch at 6:45 PM. It’s Fitness Night at Fluor Field, presented by The Junkyard and GVL FitFest. The Drive will be giving away custom co-branded PKL Park & Drive pickleball paddles to the first 1,000 fans in attendance.
