Turning Point
The RubberDucks (46-47) scored four runs in the third inning of the nightcap to go from a two-run lead to a 6-0 advantage against Ponies starter Andrew Church (0-1). After Yu Chang singled to start the inning, Papi launched a two-run shot to right field, his eighth homer of the season, to extend the Ducks lead to 4-0. Dorssys Paulino doubled and scored on a Todd Hankins RBI single. Yonathan Mendoza capped the scoring with a two-base hit to drive in Hankins for a 6-0 lead.
Winging It
DeMasi (1-0) was called up from Single-A Lynchburg to start the second game of the twin bill and did not disappoint. The former two-sport athlete at Valdosta State University weaved five innings and held the Rumble Ponies (52-40) to one run on two hits. He walked one and fanned six. DeMasi needed only 65 pitches to advance through five innings. Of his 65 pitches, 43 were strikes.
Duck Tales
Akron inflicted five more runs against Church, who was also making his Double-A debut, in fifth. Eric Haase whacked a 1-1 pitch for a leadoff homer, his 18th of the year. Hankins tripled in a run, and Joe Sever put the game out of reach with a three-run double to extend the lead to 11-0. Papi was 3-4 in the game. He also clubbed a double in the second inning. Paulino was a perfect 3-3.
