The Altoona Curve played spoiler for the home opener at Canal Park, shutting out the RubberDucks and only surrendering one hit in a 5-0 Curve win. Altoona's James Marvel blanked the RubberDucks through six innings and the Curve offense supported the righthander with three runs in the fourth inning followed by two more runs in the fifth.

Turning Point
With the game scoreless entering the fourth inning, Altoona scored three runs on three hits, two coming in on an Arden Pabst single and Alfredo Reyes followed with a run-scoring single to make it 3-0. The Curve added two more runs in the fifth inning to close the scoring.
Mound Presence
James Marvel kept the Ducks guessing all night totaling nine strikeouts and only allowing one hit, a first inning triple by Tyler Krieger . For the RubberDucks, lefty Sam Hentges lasted 4.1 innings in his Double-A debut, and gave up five runs on six hits, but only four were earned. David Speer, Argenis Angulo and Dalbert Siri were solid for the RubberDucks with 4.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Duck Tales
Krieger had both hits for the RubberDucks. His first-inning triples was the Ducks only opportunity with a runner in scoring position. Krieger's other hit was a lead-off single in the ninth inning. The only other Duck to reach base more than once was Andrew Calica , who was hit by two pitches. He led the EL in HBP in 2018.  
Notebook
The RubberDucks have now lost the past three Opening Day games…The last opening day win for Akron came 4/14/16 with a 3-2 win over Bowie…  Time of game: 2:39… Attendance: 5,191.
