Elizabethton, Tenn. - After two nights of quiet bats, the Elizabethton Twins offense jumped out early and scored often Thursday night, beating the Bluefield Blue Jays 13-6.
Ruben Santana, Tyler Webb, Seth Gray and Alex Isola each had two or more hits, with Webb and Isola driving in multiple runs.
The E-Twins hitting clinic began in the first inning, with Webb doubling in Charles Mack and Matt Wallner singling in Webb in his first professional at-bat.
Elizabethton added four more runs in the third on three more hits, including back-to-back doubles from Charlie Mack and Webb. Then, the Twins sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs.
Patience allowed the E-Twins to draw four walks and those walks, combined with a hit batter, error and two singles from Gray.
After an RBI single in the third, Isola added another in the eighth, finishing his pro debut 2-4 with two runs batted in.
"I hadn't played in a while, I was trying to get as many fastballs as I could and not miss them," Isola said. "Just trying to have fun."
On top of Isola and Wallner making their pro debuts, pitchers Ben Gross and Dylan Thomas did as well. Gross started and allowed three earned runs over four innings, while striking out two. Thomas struck out three in the final two innings.
Right-hander Denny Bentley picked up the win in relief though, throwing three innings and allowing no runs on one hit with five strikeouts.
The E-Twins travel to Kingsport this weekend for a three-game series with the Mets before returning to Elizabethton Tuesday for a three-game series with the Bristol Pirates.
