JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 1, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, took an early two-run lead but fell to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 6-4 Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
The BayBears (33-45 overall, 3-6 second half) took an early 3-1 lead, thanks to a pair of unearned runs in the second inning and a solo home run by Michael Hermosillo in the top of the third. Both of Hermosillo's home runs this year have come against the Jumbo Shrimp (36-43, 6-3).
Grayson Long pitched just two innings and threw three pitches in the third before the game was halted due to rain. Long's day came to an early close, as Adam Hofacket (0-2) entered after a 1-hour, 16-minute rain delay.
Andy Beltre (3-0) earned the win for Jacksonville, retiring all six batters he faced in relief. The BayBears plated a run in the top of the seventh on a Wade Wass single against Jeff Kinley. However, Jacksonville added a run in the eighth inning and held on to its two-run lead.
The BayBears continue the six-game road series against Jacksonville Sunday at 2:05 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Alex Klonowski (4-3, 2.77 ERA) is slated to make the start against southpaw Matt Tomshaw (7-4, 3.50 ERA) for the Jumbo Shrimp.
