JACKSON, Tenn. (July 28, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, scored six runs in the first three innings and defeated the Jackson Generals 7-1 Friday night at the Ballpark at Jackson.
For the second time in July, Zach Houchins hit a home run in consecutive games. His two-run blast in the second inning off Joel Payamps (4-5) gave the BayBears (45-57 overall, 15-18 second half) an early lead. Jose Rojas also hit a two-run homer, capping a four-run third inning.
Grayson Long (6-6) pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings in the win, his sixth of the season. Despite walking a career-high five batters, he only gave up four hits with four strikeouts. Long has not allowed a run on the road since July 1 at Jacksonville.
The BayBears pitching staff combined to keep Jackson (54-50, 17-17) off the board for 15 straight innings, starting in the second inning of Thursday's game. The Generals plated a run on a bases-loaded groundout in the eighth inning, but they left 13 runners on base and were held to the single tally.
Five Mobile players recorded multi-hit games, including Michael Hermosillo . Hermosillo matched his season-high with three hits.
The BayBears wrap up the five-game road series against Jackson Saturday at 6:05 p.m. CT.
