MOBILE, Ala. (May 23, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, fell behind early and were unable to bounce back in an 11-4 loss to the Biloxi Shuckers Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
After four Biloxi runs against Max Herrmann (0-1) in the first inning, Jhoan Urena got the BayBears (19-27) on the board with a solo home run in the second. Urena has reached base safely in 20 consecutive games, and he is now tied with former BayBear and current Jackson General Jamie Westbrook for the longest on-base streak in the Southern League this season.
Brandon Sandoval recorded a season-high three hits and drove in Urena with a double in the fourth. Sandoval finished just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.
Tyler Carpenter pitched two scoreless of relief in his first appearance since the 2017 season. He allowed just one hit, issued one walk, and struck out three batters.
The Shuckers (25-22) plated 11 runs on 14 hits, adding to their total with a pair of runs in the second and a three-run Luis Aviles Jr. home run in the fourth. Jake Gatewood also contributed with a solo home run in the sixth.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Biloxi Friday at 7:05 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo (2-4, 4.15 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Trey Supak (4-2, 2.39 ERA) for the Shuckers.
