Early Scoring Sets Tone in Soddies Win Over Frisco

FRISCO, TX (September 1, 2026) -- The Amarillo Sod Poodles (34-24, 70-56) defeated the Frisco RoughRiders (28-30, 67-59), 9-5, on Tuesday night at Riders Field. The Soddies have now won 10 of their last 12 games as they inch closer towards clinching a spot in the Texas League playoffs.

Amarillo got off to a fast start tonight as both Trent Youngblood and Cristofer Torin ended up in scoring position in the top of the first with an out having yet to be recorded. Angel Ortiz then drove in the first run of the ballgame on a sacrifice fly to center field. With Torin still aboard, Druw Jones stepped up to the dish and belted a 415-foot home run to left field to make it a three-run opening frame for the Soddies.

After Sebastian Walcott to lead off the home sixth with a walk, he worked his way around the bases and scored on a Rafe Perich single to put Frisco on the board.

The RoughRiders’ tally was met with a four-run Amarillo second that again began with the first two batters of the inning reaching base before Torin doubled home a run on a line drive down the left field line. Two consecutive sac flies followed, coming off the bats of Avery Owusu-Asiedu and Ortiz, his second in as many innings. The latter of the two sacrifice flies was dropped by the right fielder, however, extending the inning to allow Ben McLaughlin to drive in the seventh run of the game for the visitors on his single the other way.

Dylan Dreiling would be next to drive in runs, doing so in the bottom of the third on his 22nd long ball of the year, a two-run shot that made it 7-3. Amarillo got back in the run column in the top of the fourth as Jones stole second, advanced to third on the errant throw from the catcher, and scored on a fielding error by the Frisco center fielder.

While John West was holding the RoughRiders to their only three runs on the hill for the Soddies, Owusu-Asiedu rewarded him with another RBI off the right fielder’s bat, as his single brought home run number nine for Amarillo in the top of the fifth.

The bullpen duo of Tayler Montiel and Will Mabrey combined for four shutout innings in relief where they allowed only three hits between the two of them over their quartet of frames. Down to their final out, Walcott hit a solo homer to plate the first Frisco run since the third inning and Perich collected another RBI single, but that would be all for the hosts as Amarillo defeated the RoughRiders for the 9-5 series opening win.

GRAN TORIN-O: Staying hot at the plate tonight was Cristofer Torin as the shortstop went 3-for-5 with two runs, a double, and an RBI...his season hit total has now reached 127 which leads Sod Poodles and ranks 4th in the Texas League this season...since August 1, he is batting .394 (39x99) with 29 runs, 12 XBH, 15 RBI, and a 1.055 OPS over 23 games.

FOREVER YOUNGBLOOD: With another three-hit game this evening, Trent Youngblood extended his on-base streak to 19 games...he is posting a .416 OBP during what is currently the longest active on-base streak among Soddies (8/8-c)...he is now one of five different Sod Poodles this season to post back-to-back three-hit games...only Manuel Pena (4/14-4/16) has a streak of three consecutive three-hit games this season, doing so against the Frisco RoughRiders.
