KINSTON, NC - On Monday the Carolina League announced their players of the week for games played May 14th-20th. Down East RHP Edgar Arredondo was named as the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season.
Arredondo, 21, started the first shutout of the year on Tuesday, May 15th in a 2-0 victory over the Mudcats. He tossed seven innings and only allowed one hit while also fanning eight batters.
Tuesday was the fourth win of the season for the Mexican from Culiacán. He also lowered his ERA to 2.65 and extends his scoreless inning streak to 12.2 innings spanning over two starts. 
His ERA currently sits in sixth for the Carolina League. He also appears in the top five for the league in WHIP (5th, 1,07), strikeouts per nine innings (5th, 9.9), fewest baserunners per nine innings (4th, 9.88), and fewest walks per nine innings (3rd, 1.93).
Arredondo is the fourth Wood Duck to ever earn "Pitcher of the Week" status from the Carolina League. He joins Pedro Payano, Jeffrey Springs, and Wes Benjamin who were honored during the 2017 season.
