WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. (June 30, 2023) — The Wilmington Blue Rocks scored the final four runs on Friday night to come back and defeat the Hudson Valley Renegades 4-3 at Heritage Financial Park.

Hudson Valley took their first lead of the series after plating two runs in the bottom of the first off Bryan Caceres. Spencer Jones and Rafael Flores reached base before Christopher Familia doubled both runners home to hand the ‘Gades a 2-0 advantage.

Agustin Ramírez provided the Renegades with some insurance by clobbering his first home run in High-A, a solo blast down the left field line in the third inning to push the Renegades' advantage to 3-0.

Joel Valdez got the ball for Hudson Valley and was off to a great start until the fourth. Lucius Fox led off the inning with a solo home run to cut the Renegades lead to 3-1. Valdez issued a pair of walks and a single to Jose Sanchez to load the bases, but the southpaw induced a groundout to Caleb Farmer on the tenth pitch of his at-bat to leave the bases loaded.

In the fifth, Wilmington used a pair of doubles from Nick Shumpert and Brady House off Harrison Cohen to score two runs and tie the game at 3-3. House doubled in Shumpert and Fox, who had walked in the inning as well.

The game’s decisive run came in the seventh inning. Fox and Jared McKenzie collected back-to-back one-out singles off Nick Paciorek (4-1) to place the go-ahead run in scoring position. Paciorek picked off Fox at second, before McKenzie stole second and House walked to put runners on first and third after a wild pitch advanced McKenzie further. With Luis Velasquez in from the bullpen, a passed ball by Antonio Gómez allowed McKenzie to race home and give the Blue Rocks their first lead at 4-3.

Marlon Perez (3-0) tossed a pair of scoreless frames out of the bullpen to earn his third win of the season. Dannel Diaz issued a one-out walk to Jones in the ninth, but ultimately struck out the side to hand Hudson Valley its seventh-straight loss. It is the longest losing streak for the Renegades since they lost 11 straight from June 29-July 9, 2017.

The Renegades and Blue Rocks continue their series on Saturday night at Heritage Financial Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 5:45 p.m. Hudson Valley is scheduled to send New York Yankees rehabber LHP Carlos Rodon to the hill while the Blue Rocks will turn to LHP Andrew Alvarez (4-1, 2.53).
