Eight is enough! 'Dogs win 8-4 at Altoona

Altoona, Pa. - The Portland Sea Dogs (15-24) have scored at least eight runs in five straight games. On Friday night, they used a five-run third inning and beat the Altoona Curve (19-18), 8-4 at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The Sea Dogs have won a season-high four straight road games.

Portland went to work right away, scoring twice off losing pitcher Dario Agrazal (3-2) in the first inning. Danny Mars (3-for-5) led off the game with a single and advanced to third on a double from Chad De La Guerra (2-for-5). Tony Renda knocked in the first run with a groundout, and Josh Ockimey nailed an RBI single.
 
The 'Dogs built a 7-0 in the third inning, sending eight men to the plate against Agrazal. Jantzen Witte continued his torrid pace, smacking an RBI single for the first run. Witte collected two hits and has a multi-hit game in six of seven games since joining Portland. After Witte's hit, Portland received consecutive RBIs from; Ockimey (sac-fly), Tate Matheny (double) and Luke Tendler (two-run single).
 
Teddy Stankiewicz (3-6) took over for Travis Lakins in the third inning and worked 6.1 innings to earn the win. Altoona scored all four runs in the third inning off Lakins (2.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 ER, BB, SO). Stankiewicz allowed four hits and fanned seven.
 
Witte knocked in the game's final run with an RBI double in the seventh.
 
Portland has scored 51 runs in six games (8.5 per game) on the trip with 77 hits.
The 'Dogs and the Altoona Curve (Pirates affiliate) continue their four-game series on Saturday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Right-hander Mike Shawaryn (2-4, 4.12) makes his eight start of the season. Altoona counters with Brandon Waddell (1-0, 1.90). First pitch from Altoona is 6:00 PM.
