Elko's Late Homer Leads Knights to an 8-6 Win

ROCHESTER, NY – The Charlotte Knights took the series opener from the Rochester Red Wings on Tuesday night by a final score of 8-6. The Knights trailed most of the game before a late offensive explosion sent Charlotte to their fifth win in their last seven games.

Both offenses did damage early in the contest. The Red Wings ultimately took a 5-2 lead after four frames with the Knights’ runs coming on RBI singles from Michael Turner and Ryan Galanie. Both Turner and Galanie finished the game with two hits.

The two teams exchanged runs in the fifth and it was all Charlotte from there. Andy Weber’s RBI single in the sixth brought the Knights within two and Tim Elko’s three-run Home Run in the top of the seventh pushed the visitors in front 7-6. Charlotte added an insurance run in the eighth on a Rochester wild pitch.

The Knights bullpen was once again outstanding. Peyton Pallette earned the win with a scoreless inning pitched. Tyler Davis followed with two shutout frames that included three strikeouts. Finally, Jaden Woods took care of business in the ninth with a one, two, three stanza. Woods collected his third save of the season.

Charlotte’s hitters displayed a patient approach throughout the game and the team tied a season-high with ten walks drawn. Rochester’s starting pitcher, Luis Perales, lasted only 1.2 innings.

The series between the two International League top-tier teams continues on Wednesday evening with Game Two slated for 6:45pm ET.
