North Little Rock, AR - RHP Chris Ellis tossed six scoreless innings, helping lead the Springfield Cardinals to the 4-1 win against the Arkansas Travelers before 5,580 fans at Dickey-Stephens Park on Friday night.

Ellis (W, 2-4) and Travelers RHP Lindsey Caughel (L, 6-8) both worked out of a couple of jams through their first two scoreless innings, before Springfield (12-9, 47-44) powered in front in the top of the third. With one down in the frame, 2B Darren Seferina slugged his first-career Double-A home run, a solo shot to right field, swinging Springfield into the 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals then doubled the advantage in the top of the fourth inning. With one away, C Andrew Knizner extended a six-game hitting streak with a double torched to left-center field. One out later, SS Tommy Edman came through with an RBI single pulled to right field, plating Knizner to make it 2-0.

Ellis kept the two-run lead intact throughout the remainder of his start, dealing a stifling 6.0 innings and carrying the Cardinals into the bottom of the seventh. After the first two batters of the inning reached, LHP Corey Littrell took over for Springfield. SS Adam Law welcomed Littrell to the mound with a bunt single, loading the bases with no outs. Littrell, though, dug in with a fielder's choice, a strikeout and a groundout, stranding the bases loaded the getting the Cardinals out of the seventh still up, 2-0.

Springfield then doubled the lead with two insurance runs in the top of the eighth. DH Bruce Caldwell started the frame with a single against LHP Paul Paez, leading to RHP Tyler Knigge coming in to face LF Randy Arozarena. Arozarena, though, scorched a double to left field, moving Caldwell around to third base. 1B John Nogowski skied an RBI sacrifice fly that brought in Caldwell and moved Arozarena to third base, before an RBI single from C Andrew Knizner brought in Arozarena for the 4-0 lead.

RHP Dailyn Martinez blanked the Travelers (9-12, 41-50) in the bottom of the eighth, before Arkansas got on the board in the ninth. RHP Landon Beck took over to start the frame and quickly retired the first batter, but SS Adam Law and CF Ian Miller connected for consecutive doubles, plating the Travs first run. Beck, however, responded with back-to-back strikeouts, slamming the door with no further damage and closing the 4-1 win for Springfield.
