Lake Elsinore, CA- The Quakes continued their troubles on the road with a 7-6 loss at Lake Elsinore in 11 innings on Wednesday night, in the final game of the road trip. Ty France singled to right field with the bases loaded to score the winning run and complete the sweep for the Storm, sending Rancho to a 1-5 road trip.
The Quakes have now lost four straight games in the opponents' final at-bat, three of those being via a walk-off and it did not start off well for Rancho in game three of the series.
The Storm struck first in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Ty France and a sacrifice fly by Javier Guerra. They added on in the second on with two runs on a single from Edwin Moreno that made it 4-0, Storm, after two innings.
The Quakes fought back with three runs of their own in the top of the third inning. Ariel Sandoval knocked in Luke Raley before Will Smith smashed a two-run double off of the wall in left field.
Smith then tied the game with a solo blast over the wall in left in the fifth and Omar Estevez launched his first home run of the year in the sixth inning to give the Quakes the lead, 5-4.
In the eighth inning, Dean Kremer yielded an RBI, game-tying double from Ruddy Giron. That was immediately followed by an RBI double by Miguel Del Castillo off of reliever Shea Spitzbarth, and the Storm had the lead, 6-5.
Rancho tied it in the top of the ninth inning on an odd play. With Logan Landon on second and two outs, Estevez struck out swinging, but the ball got away from Del Castillo, the catcher. Estevez beat the throw to first and no one covered home, allowing Landon to score and tie the game.
In the first extra-inning game on the season for the Quakes, the Storm won in the 11th inning on a bases-loaded, RBI single by France off of Andrew Istler (0-2).
Lake Elsinore pitcher Gerardo Reyes (0-1) was the winning pitcher, pitching a scoreless top of the 11th inning. The win not only completed the sweep for the Storm (13-14) over the Quakes (14-13), it gave the Quakes a 1-5 road trip combined between Lake Elsinore and Lancaster.
Joc Pederson, Josh Ravin and Logan Forsythe made rehab appearances for the Quakes in the loss. Pederson, in his third rehab game with Rancho, finished 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. Combined between Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday's games, he is 1-8 with three walks. Forsythe went 0-for-1 a strikeout in his second rehab game before being removed early. Ravin threw a scoreless inning, giving up a hit before striking out the side.
The Quakes are back home on Thursday, May 4th, against the Inland Empire 66ers at 7:05 PM. Major League rehabber Rich Hill will take the hill for the Quakes while the 66ers will counter with right-hander Jose Rodriguez (2-2).
