CLINTON, IA (April 20, 2019) - The Clinton LumberKings completed their sweep of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers with a 3-2 win on Saturday night - their seventh win over their last eight games. Jerar Encarnacion and Thomas Jones each homered for the LumberKings (9-6) in their fourth straight win.
Clinton wasted no time in scoring the game's first run off Wisconsin (6-9) starter Scotty Sunitsch. Encarnacion homered to right center with two out in the bottom of the first giving Clinton a lead they would not relinquish.
Encarnacion's home run was his fifth of the season and was part of a 1-for-3 night at the plate that also included a walk -extending his hitting streak to 10 games and his streak of reaching base safely to 15 games.
The LumberKings added on in the second against Sunitsch (1-3). Sean Reynolds opened the frame with a walk and scored when the next batter Bubba Hollins doubled down the line in left to score Reynolds all the way from first.
Wisconsin scored their first run of the night in the top in the fourth. LumberKings starter Manuel Rodriguez allowed a leadoff double to Gabriel Garcia and two ground balls later brought home the run to make it a one-run game.
Rodriguez (1-0) picked up the win for Clinton for his five innings of work. He allowed an unearned run to score in the fifth but no more - ending his night allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits while walking none and striking out two.
Thomas Jones added the final run for Clinton in the bottom of the fourth. His first home run of the year cleared the berm in left and proved to be the difference in the LumberKings third straight one-run win.
Alberto Guerrero relieved Rodriguez and earned the long save with four shut down innings of relief. He allowed just one hit during his time out and walked one while striking out two.
Clinton's four straight wins is their longest winning streak of the season thus far.
The LumberKings take tomorrow off for Easter but return to action when they welcome in the Beloit Snappers for a three-game series starting on Monday night.
