Erie, PA - The Erie SeaWolves (53-60) scored four times in the sixth inning and beat the Portland Sea Dogs (46-66), 5-3 on Tuesday night in the series opener at UPMC Park. Sea Dogs' 3B Michael Chavis tied a career-high with four hits.

The game was scoreless until the home fourth when Josh Lester hit the first pitch over the right-field fence off losing pitcher Matt Kent (7-8).
Portland responded with two runs off Spencer Turnbull in the fifth inning. Danny Mars tied the game with a run-scoring double. Jeremy Rivera gave the 'Dogs a 2-1 lead with an RBI single off the wall. The hit was initially ruled a home run but overturned by the umpires. Tate Matheny added an RBI single in the sixth to improve the lead to 3-1.
Kent ran into trouble in Erie's half of the sixth inning. Lester and Dominic Ficociello began the inning with singles, and Josh Rogers crushed a three-run homer to left. Isaac Paredes doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Sergio Alcántara.
Kurt Spomer (3-0) worked a scoreless inning on two hits to earn the win. John Schreiber pitched a scoreless ninth for his 15th save of the season.
Jake Cosart pitched 1.2 scoreless for Portland, recording three strikeouts. Jordan Weems hurled a scoreless eighth. Rivera extended his hitting streak to seven games, picking up his first road RBI since June 2nd at Harrisburg.
The Sea Dogs and Erie SeaWolves (Tigers affiliate) meet on Wednesday night from UPMC Park beginning at 7:05 PM. Lefty Kyle Hart (7-7, 3.78) takes on Right-hander Beau Burrows (8-8, 4.18).
