The Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) have partnered to offer fans the opportunity to learn more about electric vehicles (EVs) and take a test drive. The “Drive into the Future” ride and drive event will take place at the Blue Wahoos Stadium before Pensacola’s game against the Birmingham Barons on Saturday, Aug. 13, starting at 4:30 p.m.

“FPL’s EVolution program is making it easier than ever for drivers to go electric,” said Crystal Stiles, director of development, distributed technologies and mobility for Florida Power & Light Company. “We’re excited to bring the benefits of EVs to drivers in Pensacola. This ride and drive event is the perfect opportunity to explore the latest EVs on the market, take one for a test drive, discover the benefits of owning an EV, and learn how to charge your EV at home and on the road.”

Motorists ages 16+ with a valid driver’s license will be able to test drive a variety of industry-leading EV makes and models from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. on the plaza outside of Blue Wahoos Stadium. Vehicles may include the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mach E and Lightning, Chevy Bolt, Kia Niro, Polestar, Hyundai Ionic, Chrysler Pacifica and others. Fans can also access giveaways, enter to win prizes including a seat upgrade, take photos with Kazoo and enjoy live entertainment by Cat Country 98.7.

“We’re excited to offer our fans this unique opportunity to take some of the top electric cars on the market for a spin at the ballpark,” Team President Jonathan Griffith said. “Our goal as an organization is to improve the quality of life in our community, and offering the chance to fans to learn more about eco-friendly options will be both positive and fun.”

In addition to the EV test drive event, Saturday’s game will also be DIY Jersey Night. For the first time in Minor League history, each individual jersey worn by Blue Wahoos players will be unique and designed by a different fan, including a special set of uniforms designed by young patients at West Florida Hospital. Select uniforms will be auctioned during the game with proceeds being donated to benefit the patients in recovery. Following the game, fans can enjoy a Fireworks Spectacular thanks to FPL. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
