Extra, Extra!: Renegades erupt for 10-5 win in 10 innings

Lakewood, N.J. (Aug. 18, 1026) – The Hudson Valley Renegades used more late-inning magic to defeat the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 10-5 in 10 innings on Tuesday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

The Renegades trailed 5-4 heading into the ninth and rallied to tie the game before exploding for five runs in the top of the 10^th inning to win. It was the fourth time in the Renegades’ last six games that they have scored four-or-more runs in and inning in the eighth inning or later.

Hudson Valley improved to 6-6 in extra-inning games this season. Their last two road games have gone into extras, and both have resulted in wins.

The win brought the Renegades back within one game of .500 overall for the season. The team has not been .500 overall on the year since sweeping a doubleheader at Brooklyn on 5/21 to improve to 21-21.

The Renegades improved to 26-23 in the second half of the season and are 2.0 games back of Greensboro who currently sit in the second-half playoff spot. However, the Renegades leapt past Wilmington in the standings thanks to a BlueClaws loss on Tuesday.

Renegades pitchers did not allow a hit or a run after the fifth inning. Relievers Andrew Landry and Thomas Balboni, Jr. combined to strike out five of the last eight batters for the BlueClaws in the game.

The Renegades move to 8-11 overall against Jersey Shore on the season.

LHP Franyer Herrera (3.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 2 K) struck out two batters and walked a career-high five batters across 3.2 innings in the start.

Herrera failed to complete 4.0 innings for the second time in his last three starts and third time in his last five starts. Over his las three games, Herrera has thrown 13.0 IP with 14 H, 12 R, 12 ER, 10 BB, 11 K.

Two strikeouts was Herrera’s lowest strikeout total since he fanned only two on 6/7 at Frederick.

Herrera has six games this year with four-or-more walks out of 20 total appearances.

CF Jackson Lovich (1-for-4, R, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB) has hit four extra-base hits in his last two games after not having one through 14 games played with the Renegades.

Lovich hit his third home run in the last three games in the top of the third inning to put the Renegades in front 4-3 at the time.

C Eric Genther (2-for-6, R, 2B, 4 RBI) had a three-run double in the top of the 10^th inning to break the game open for the Renegades

Genther is up to 61 RBIs on the season, third most on the team behind Kyle West and Roderick Arias.

RF Dean Toigo (3-for-5, 3 R, 2 2B, RBI) had his first career three-hit game and had two doubles.

LF Robbie Burnett (1-for-3, 2 R, 2B, RBI, 2 BB) had the game-tying double in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Burnett extended his on-base streak to 12 games

SS Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek (1-for-4, BB) has gotten on base in all 12 High-A games played.

RHP Andrew Landry (1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) picked up the win and has not allowed an earned run in nine of his last 11 appearances since 7/7.
