WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 10, 2019) - Carolina catcher Mario Feliciano and Potomac right-hander Malvin Pena have earned the Carolina League's Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively, for the week of June 3-9, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Both Feliciano and Pena have claimed the first weekly honors of their Minor League careers.
Feliciano paced all High-A hitters in home runs (5) and RBIs (11) last week. The 20-year-old shared the Minor League lead in home runs with four others, while his 11 RBIs were just four shy of the top spot. Feliciano's 1.286 slugging percentage and 1.786 OPS also led all Minor League qualifiers.

In all, the Puerto Rico native posted a .429 average (9-for-21) with eight runs scored, helping the Mudcats to a 4-2 showing last week. Feliciano has been one of the Carolina League's most productive hitters in 2019, sitting atop the circuit in home runs (14) and RBIs (47). His season-long .873 OPS is second-best among CL qualifiers, trailing only recently-promoted Jarren Duran of Salem (.998).
Pena is the first Potomac National honored with a weekly award this season. The right-hander blanked Lynchburg over seven sensational innings on Thursday. He scattered just three base runners, via two hits and a walk, and struck out six en route to his fourth win of the year.
A 21-year-old from the Dominican Republic, Pena has bounced back from a tough start to the season to record three straight strong outings. Since May 25, Pena has allowed just three runs over 15.2 innings of work, good for a 1.72 earned run average.
Feliciano and the Mudcats open a three-game series with Frederick on Monday at 7 p.m., while Pena and the P-Nats welcome Down East to Woodbridge, with Monday's opener set for 7:05 p.m.
