Fifteen Hit Attack Leads Rome Past Asheville 8-1

The Rome Braves defeated the Asheville Tourists Wednesday at State Mutual Stadium by a final score of 8-1 before 1,213 fans.  

The Rome Braves defeated the Asheville Tourists Wednesday at State Mutual Stadium by a final score of 8-1 before 1,213 fans.  

In the top of the first, Asheville made it a 1-0 game on Vince Fernandez's RBI groundout. The Braves tied the game in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Carlos Martínez run scoring base hit for the 1-1 score. Rome crossed the plate three times in the third inning on Marcus Mooney's single to score a run and Drew Lugbauer's two RBI double for the 4-1 score. Isranel Wilson had a sacrifice fly RBI and Mooney added a run scoring single in the fourth giving the Braves a 6-1 advantage. Rome added two more runs in the fifth for the 8-1 final.     
Joey Wentz ((8-1) gets the win for Rome going six innings allowing one run on one hit and striking out five. Rico Garcia (0-1) is tagged with the loss. The Rome offense banged out fifteen hits while the pitching staff held Asheville to just one run on two hits.  
The Braves and Tourists play again tomorrow night at seven in the final game of the series before Rome heads to Columbia for four games.
