Fightins hit 5 homers in 14-6 win over 'Dogs

Reading, PA - The Reading Fightin Phils (27-23) hit five homers on Thursday, and defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (23-26), 14-6 at FirstEnergy Stadium. Portland dropped the final three games of the series, after winning the series opener on Tuesday.

Reading, PA - The Reading Fightin Phils (27-23) hit five homers on Thursday, and defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (23-26), 14-6 at FirstEnergy Stadium. Portland dropped the final three games of the series, after winning the series opener on Tuesday.

Reading went to work in the first inning, scoring four times off Kevin McAvoy (L, 1-4). Scott Kingery (4-for-4) led off with a homer. Later in the inning, Angelo Mora socked a three-run shot to right-center field.
Portland got on the board in the fourth inning off Mario Sanchez. Jeremy Barfield launched a solo-shot to left field, his third with Portland in just eight games. Reading responded with two in their half of the fourth on a homer by Mitch Walding an RBI double by Kingery.
The Sea Dogs knocked Sanchez out of the game in the fifth inning, scoring five run to tie the game at six. Jake DePew and Deiner Lopez began the rally with back-to-back homers, each hitting their first home runs of the season. Rafael Devers (2-for-5) and Barfield delivered RBI singles, and Cole Sturgeon tied the game with a sacrifice fly.
 
Miguel Nunez (1-4) allowed two inherited runners to score, but worked four scoreless in relief to earn the win for the Fightins.
McAvoy allowed a career-high four homers on 10 hits and nine runs and suffered the loss.
Reading took the lead for good in the fifth, as they scored four runs in back-to-back innings. Kyle Martin snapped a 6-6 tie with a solo-homer, proving to be the game-winning RBI. Walding added a 3-run shot off Yankory Pimentel.
Portland's Danny Mars picked up a season-high four hits and is 7 for his last 11. 
The Sea Dogs open up a four-game series in three days on Friday night with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets affiliate) at NYSEG Stadium, first pitch is 7:05 PM. RHP Teddy Stankiewicz (2-2, 3.56) makes the start for Portland. RHP Seth Lugo gets the ball for Binghamton.
