JUPITER, FL – The debut of the first member of the Phillies’ draft class was spoiled for the Clearwater Threshers (58-40, 18-14) in a 9-0 loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads (49-50, 12-21) on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Clearwater looks to bounce back when they return to Jupiter on Friday evening.

With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Hammerheads designated hitter Max Williams belted a two-run home run to open the scoring for Jupiter. They added another run with two outs in the third to triple the lead to 3-0. A two-run double in the fifth inning padded the Hammerheads’ advantage to five runs. The Hammerheads' sixth run of the game came with two outs in the seventh, padding their lead by one run. Three more runs came across in the eighth inning, extending Jupiter's lead to nine runs.

The Threshers had runners in scoring position in most innings, with their best chance lost in the fourth inning. Jonathan Hogart and Matthew Ferrara walked, and Romeli Espinosa was hit by a pitch to load the bases after the first out in the frame. However, the Threshers stranded the bases loaded with a strikeout and a flyout to finish off the frame. Ferrara and Angel Mata put two runners on in the ninth with one out, but the Threshers couldn’t bring a run across in a 9-0 defeat to the Hammerheads.

Yordanis Guerra (0-1) surrendered three runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 3.2 innings to take the loss. Orlando Gonzalez tossed 1.1 innings with two runs allowed on two hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Tyler Bowen gave up one run on three hits with four strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Wilmer Blanco surrendered three runs on three hits with one walk and one strikeout in 1.0 inning.
