Grand Chute, WI (April 23, 2018) - A five run sixth inning by the Clinton LumberKings proved to be the difference in their seventh straight win, as they dropped the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-2 on Monday night at Neuroscience Group Field. Oliver Jaskie picked up his first win for Clinton (11-3) with seven shutout innings, the longest start of the season.
Through the first five innings Jaskie (1-0) and Timber Rattlers (3-14) starter Alec Bettinger traded zeros in a pitcher's duel. Jaskie navigated jams during him time out thanks to help from his defense which turned a season high four double-plays.
In the top of the sixth inning, the LumberKings broke the scoreless tie with s six run rally that all started with two out in the inning. Bettinger (0-2) saw the bases loaded against him before Jack Larsen doubled high off the wall in straightaway center field to chase home three runs. The three-run double chased Bettinger from the game.
The LumberKings added a run in the top of the ninth on Eugene Helder's first home run of the season.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the LumberKings were denied the shutout. Clay Chandler relieved Jaskie and gave up both the Timber Rattlers runs. Pat McInerney started the scoring with his Midwest league leading fifth home run of the season. Demi Orimoloye followed with a triple to left center and scored on a Gilbert Lara ground out. Chandler then struck out Zach Clark looking to end the game.
The win is the LumberKings seventh straight, the teams longest winning streak since 2016's Western Division Championship team won 10 straight games.
The LumberKings will return to Neuroscience Group Field for the second game of their four-game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday night. Clinton will give the ball to right-hander Ryne Inman (1-0, 1.04) while the Timber Rattlers will tap righty Nelson Hernandez (1-2, 9.82). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
