PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 10th through July 16th.

Trenton Thunder infielder Billy Fleming has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 10th-July 16th. The 24-year old batted .471 (8-for-17) with three doubles, three home runs, seven RBIs, three runs scored, one walk, and a 1.176 slugging percentage in four games last week. Fleming, who is a native of Churchville, Pennsylvania, had at least one hit in all four games he played in last week and had multiple hits in three of those games. He kicked off his week by going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs in a 7-5 win at Hartford on Thursday, and followed that up by homering in three straight games from July 14th-July 16th. The 6'1", 210 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in slugging percentage (1.176), OPS (1.650), extra-base hits (6), and total bases (20) last week and tied for the league lead in home runs (3). He also ranked among the weekly leaders in hits (8-2nd), RBIs (7-3rd), doubles (3-tied 3rd), batting average (.471-4th), and on-base percentage (.474-tied 9th). Billy, who is hitting .256 with nine home runs and 42 RBIs in 58 games for the Thunder this season, was signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 23, 2014 after playing three seasons at West Virginia University.

Chris Flexen, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 10th-July 16th. The 6'3", 235 lb. hurler started one game for the Rumble Ponies last week and had a record of 1-0 with nine strikeouts and a 1.13 ERA. Flexen, who is a native of Newark, California, made his lone start of the week on Thursday night at Reading and took a no-hitter into the eighth inning to lead the Rumble Ponies to a 6-1 victory. Flexen did not allow a hit until giving up a solo homer to Reading's Chace Numata with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. He struck out nine batters and walked one while giving up just one hit over his eight innings of work. The 23-year old tied for the league lead in strikeouts (9), wins (1), and innings pitched (8.0) last week and also ranked among the weekly league leaders in WHIP (0.25-2nd) and batting average against (.040-2nd). Chris, who has a record of 5-1 with 43 strikeouts and a 1.73 ERA in six starts this season for the Rumble Ponies after getting promoted to Binghamton from Class-A St. Lucie on May 31st, was selected by the New York Mets in the 14th round of the 2012 draft out of Newark Memorial High School in California.
