CLEARWATER, Fla. - Pedro Florimón began a rehab assignment and Mickey Moniak delivered two extra-base knocks, as Clearwater defeated Bradenton 6-1 on Tuesday night at Spectrum Field.
Florimon was added to the Threshers roster on Tuesday, and played five innings at shortstop to begin a rehab assignment with Clearwater. Florimon was placed on the Phillies disabled list on July 10 with a right foot fracture. He went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored on the night.
Clearwater (33-18) (65-54) remains in first place in the FSL North Division. After Tuesday's win and a loss by the second-place Dunedin Blue Jays, The Threshers now sit 3.5 games up on Dunedin and four games up on the Lakeland Flying Tigers with 18 games remaining in the regular season.
Jerad Eickhoff made his third start for Clearwater as part of a rehab stint. He tossed four scoreless innings, only allowing one hit, walked three and picked up four strikeouts.
Clearwater struck first in the early frames.
The Threshers plated a pair in the first to gain an early lead. Arquimedes Gamboa hit a groundball that skipped through into right field for a base hit, and Mickey Moniak ripped a double into left field to put two in scoring position for Henri Lartigue.
Lartigue smacked the first pitch he saw for a line drive to right-center that scored the runners for an early 2-0 advantage.
The Threshers extended their lead in the third courtesy of a Moniak three-bagger. Florimon reached on a walk and with two outs, Moniak blasted a fly ball off the wall in left-center field to bring home the run and extend the Threshers lead to 3-0.
Clearwater added on some insurance in the fourth. Luke Williams singled on a come-backer to the hill and stole second to put a man in scoring position. With two away, Kevin Markham lined a two-run double into right-center field, increasing the lead to 4-0.
In the seventh, Clearwater further escalated the damage. Markham drew a leadoff walk and reached second on a wild pitch. Daniel Brito gave a 2-2 pitch a ride out to left center that was caught on a diving play by Casey Hughston, but Markham was able to tag up and reach third on the sac fly.
Gamboa then fired a fly ball into right field for an RBI double pushing the lead to 5-0, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Lartigue shot a groundball through the right side, pushing the lead to 6-0.
Bradenton (15-33) (50-63) broke up the shutout in the eighth. Brett Pope drew a leadoff walk and after two strikeouts, Mitchell Tolman walked to put runners on first and second. Hughston lined a single to right field to plate the runner and get on the board, 6-1.
Ramon Rosso took over in the fifth, hurling four innings in his first relief appearance for the Threshers. He surrendered one run on one hit while walking two and tallying five strikeouts.
Jonathan Hennigan pitched another scoreless inning of relief to close the ballgame. The lefty has not allowed a runner to score in 10 games with the Threshers.
Clearwater looks to take the series in game three of four against Bradenton on Wednesday. Adonis Medina (9-3) takes the hill for the Threshers against Domingo Robles (0-1) for the Marauders with a 7 p.m. first pitch. Kirsten Karbach will be on the call for the Threshers Broadcast Network with the pregame show beginning at 6:45 p.m.
