Former Indians Pitcher Len Barker, Browns Greg and Mike Pruitt Highlight Cleveland Sports History Night, August 5th

(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains, Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, are pleased to announce that former Indians hurler Len Barker and former Browns Greg and Mike Pruitt will be on hand for this year's edition of Cleveland Sports History Night to sign autographs and toss out a ceremonial first pitch. All guests mentioned in this release are subject to change.
Len Barker spent five of his 11 Major League seasons with the Indians. Barker pitched for the Tribe from 1979 to 1983, a stretch that included an All-Star selection in 1981. Barker also led the American League in strikeouts in 1980 with 187 and again in '81 with 127. The right-hander is best remembered for pitching a perfect game for the Indians on May 15, 1981 against the Toronto Blue Jays. Barker's triumph over Toronto was the 10th official perfect game in baseball history.
Greg Pruitt spent nine of his twelve seasons in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns. Greg, a running back, played from 1973-1981 in the Brown and Orange. During his Browns career, Pruitt rushed for 5,496 yards and 25 touchdowns. Pruitt also added 3,022 receiving yards and caught 17 TD's while in Cleveland. Pruitt's best year was 1977 when he totaled 1,557 all-purpose yards and had 4 touchdowns. Greg Pruitt finished his career with the Oakland Raiders.
Mike Pruitt also spent nine seasons with the Browns. Mike, a fullback, played from 1976-1984 in Cleveland. Pruitt rushed for 6,540 yards and 47 Touchdowns. Mike also had 255 catches for 1,761 yards and 5 TD's while with the Browns. Pruitt played with Kansas City and Buffalo during his 11-year career.
Jim Chones and Campy Russell will participate in the evening, representing the Cavaliers. Chones played in 788 games during his career. Chones averaged 12.5 PPG and 8.2 Rebounds per game. Chones played five seasons with the Cavs and is remembered most for the "Miracle at Richfield", in which the Cavaliers defeated the Washington Bullets, 4-3. They won Game 7, 87-85, on a shot by Dick Snyder with four seconds to go.
Russell played 9 seasons in the NBA. The Cavs selected Campy 8th overall in the 1974 draft out of the University of Michigan. Russell, also played on the Miracle at Richfield team. Russell was an NBA All-Star in 1979. During his All-Star campaign, he averaged 21.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game for the Cavaliers. Russell currently is a pre-game and post-game host on Fox Sports Ohio.
Dennis Felton, Cleveland State's new head basketball coach will be in attendance. Felton, 54, was 100-54 for Western Kentucky, winning three straight Sun Belt Conference Tournament titles (2001-2003). His team lost in first round of those NCAA Tournaments.
Felton was hired by Georgia in 2003. With the Bulldogs Felton was 84-91 between 2003 and 2009. They won the SEC Tournament in 2008 as the No. 12 seed, winning four games in three days.
Mike Moran, former head basketball coach at John Carroll University will also be in attendance. Moran had a career record of 459-228 in his 25 years at JCU. On Sept. 24, 2010, Mike Moran was inducted into the John Carroll University Athletic Hall of Fame.
Moran came to John Carroll in 1992 with some very impressive credentials. In 11 seasons at Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School, he fashioned a record of 224-53 as the head boys' basketball coach. In those 11 years, his teams captured nine district championships, four regional championships, and two state championships.
The William Harridge Trophy, which is awarded to Major League Baseball's American League Champion, will be on display in honor of the Cleveland Indians 2016 AL Pennant. Fans will have an opportunity to take a picture with the trophy. In addition, the Captains will be unveiling their new Wall-Of-Fame at Classic Park outside the main gates around 4:30 PM.
