Burnes, 23, had been with Triple-A Colorado Springs when he got the call to the show earlier today. He was 3-4 and pitched to a 5.15 ERA over 19 games and 13 starts (78.2 IP, 31 BB, 81 SO) with the Sky Sox before the Brewers selected his contract today. He was also 2-0 with a 7.24 ERA at home (9 G, 6 GS, 32.1 IP, 18 BB, 27 SO) and 1-4 with a 3.69 ERA on the road (10 G, 7 GS, 46.1 IP, 13 BB, 54 SO).

The Bakersfield, CA native began the 2017 season with the Mudcats before receiving a near mid-season promotion to Double-A Biloxi on May 29. He went 5-0 over 10 starts with the Mudcats and left the Carolina League as the league leader in earned run average (1.05), WHIP (0.88) and fewest baserunners/9ip ratio (8.25). Burnes was also second in the Carolina League in lowest average against (.181), third in innings pitched (60.0) and fourth in strikeouts (56) before the promotion.
Burnes was named the Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2017 after going a combined 8-3 with a 1.67 ERA High-A Carolina and Double-A Biloxi last season. He also totaled 36 walks and 140 strikeouts over 145.2 innings and 26 starts between both High-A and Double-A in 2017.
Burnes is the seventh former Mudcats player to receive a promotion to the Majors this season. Burnes also joins Peralta as the second former Mudcats player to debut with the Brewers since Carolina became Milwaukee's Class-A Advanced affiliate before the 2017 season.
The Carolina Mudcats are the proud Carolina League, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. First established in 1991, the two-time Southern League Champion Mudcats are entering their 28th consecutive season of baseball at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C. The 2018 season marks the first for the Mudcats under the ownership of the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
