Four Canadians Named To NWL All-Star Team

VANCOUVER, BC – Minor League Baseball has named Canadians pitchers Johnny King, Daniel Guerra, Alexis Hernandez and Tucker Toman to the Northwest League All-Star Team. It's the second consecutive season the C's have landed at least two players on the NWL All-Star squad and comes on the heels of Vancouver's sixth Northwest League championship last week.
King, 20, was a revelation in his first full pro season, going 21 starts for the C's with a 3.21 ERA and 112 strikeouts across 84 innings before a promotion to Double-A New Hampshire in August. The Commerce, Michigan native and Naples (FL) High School product opened his Canadians tenure with eight consecutive starts allowing one run or fewer and carried a sub-1.00 ERA into the middle of May. Toronto's third-round pick (95th overall) in the 2024 Draft, King finished the year as the Blue Jays' #3 overall prospect.
Guerra, 22, punched his ticket to the All-Star Team by striking out better than 31 percent of the hitters he faced across 16 starts and 64.0 innings for Vancouver, posting an ERA in the low 3.00s before elbow soreness cost him roughly seven weeks in the middle of the summer. The 6-foot-6 right-hander returned from a rehab assignment to finish out his Canadians season in late July, then rode the results to consecutive promotions, reaching Double-A New Hampshire on August 11 before a fast-tracked move to Triple-A Buffalo weeks later. Signed as an international free agent out of Venezuela in 2022, Guerra climbed to #16 on the Blue Jays' Top 30 Prospects list.
Hernandez, 23, delivered a career year at the plate, posting a .272/.375/.481 line for an .856 OPS while setting personal bests in home runs and extra-base hits. The outfielder was especially destructive from May onward, when he hit .279 with an .856-plus OPS and a 144 wRC+, and he added an NWL Player of the Week award in mid-May. The Tinaco, Venezuela native was originally signed by Boston as an international free agent in July 2019 before Toronto claimed him in the 2024 Rule 5 minor league draft.
Toman, 22, broke out in a big way in his fifth pro season, slashing .274/.399/.449 with 11 home runs and a 129 wRC+ over 79 games before earning a promotion to Double-A New Hampshire. The switch-hitter walked at a 14.9 percent clip against a 25 percent strikeout rate and captured NWL Player of the Week honours twice, highlighted by a 10-for-16, three-homer week June 8-14 that included a stretch reaching base as a pinch-hitter without an official at-bat. The Columbia, SC native was a second-round pick in 2022 out of The Hammond School.
The four All-Stars were part of a Vancouver roster that opened the season 1-7 to finish last in the first half before catching fire in the second half and capping the year with a dramatic 9-8, 12-inning win at Eugene's PK Park to complete the sweep. It's the club's sixth Northwest League title and second in the last four seasons.
