FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 18, 2017) - The Fort Myers Miracle (21-20) completed a four-game sweep of the Clearwater Threshers (22-19) with a 5-2 win on Thursday night. The Miracle have won five straight and are over the .500 threshold for the first time this season.
In his first start of the year, RHP Brady Anderson kept his team in the game by allowing just two runs over 4.1 innings. The Miracle scored all of their runs with two outs starting with Sean Miller's RBI-single in the bottom of the second. They carried the 1-0 lead until Jan Hernandez launched a towering two-run home run to left in the fourth.
Down 2-1 in the fifth, the Miracle had runners at second and third with one out after a wild pitch by starter RHP Alberto Tirado (L, 2-3). After Daniel Kihle struck out, Max Murphy laced a single to right field to score both Kevin Garcia and Sean Miller. Murphy advanced to second on the play, and Bradley Strong drove him in with a knock up the middle to take a 4-2 lead. Fort Myers added one more in the eighth with a Tanner English RBI-single.
After Anderson's outing, the bullpen locked down the win. LHP Michael Theofanopoulos (W, 1-1) picked up his first win of the season with 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball. RHP Williams Ramirez came in for a clean eighth, while LHP Sam Clay (Sv, 2) shut the door in the ninth and extended his scoreless streak to 20.2.
The Miracle begin a three-game series against first place Bradenton on Friday night. LHP Lewis Thorpe makes his first start for the Twins organization since 2014 when he squares off against RHP Gage Hinsz. First pitch is set for 6:35 PM ET.
