The Snappers trip east got off on the right foot as Beloit knocked off Lake County 7-6 on Monday. Mike Martin came up just short of his second career five-hit game. Martin grounded out in the ninth inning after starting 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Luke Persico delivered RBIs in three of his four plate appearances and finished with a career-high four RBI.

Both teams traded a pair of runs in the first inning, and Lake County took a brief 3-2 lead in the second before Beloit scored five more runs. Miguel Mercedes tied the game at 3-3 with his sixth homer of the season with two out in the third. Four of his six home runs have now been solo shots. Persico broke the tie on a sac fly in the fifth, his second RBI of the evening. He drove in two more in the seventh with a single to left field that brought Edwin Diaz and Martin.
Dalton Sawyer logged five innings to pick up his team-leading third win of the season. The Captains did manage to score three runs off Sawyer in the first two innings, but he retired the final nine hitters he faced. Nick Highberger tossed two hitless innings before the Captains pulled within one run after plating three off Highberger in the eighth inning. Yordys Alejo worked a perfect ninth to earn the save.
