APPLETON, WI (May 16, 2017) - Twice the Clinton LumberKings batted around in a lopsided 15-3 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field. The LumberKings (15-20) slugged four home runs, two by Gareth Morgan, and totaled 22 hits in an avalanche of offense.
The LumberKings scored early and often putting their first runs on the board in the top of the first inning off Timber Rattlers (17-18) starter Zack Brown. Anthony Jimenez opened the scoring with the LumberKings first home run of the afternoon. Following a Bryson Brigman one out walk, Jimenez drove a ball just over the wall in left for his second home run of the season. Jimenez came just a triple shy of the cycle going 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, three runs scored, a walk, and two RBI.
After adding a run in the second, the LumberKings broke out for four runs in the third inning. Joe Rizzo leadoff with a walk which led to Brown (0-2) being taken out after just two plus innings of work. Jordan Desguin entered the game for Wisconsin and allowed back-to-back doubles to Jimenez and Yojhan Quevedo to bring home the first two runs in the inning. The LumberKings sent 10 men to the plate in the inning which was capped by a Gareth Morgan mammoth home run to center.
In the top of the fifth inning, the LumberKings, again, sent 10 men to the plate scoring five runs. Jimenez began the rally with a single to left and was chased home when Quevedo doubled him home. Quevedo was one of two LumberKings to collect four hits during the day, he went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBI, and two doubles.
The scoring continued in the fourth with back-to-back LumberKings home runs. Kristian Brito followed the Quevedo double with a home run to left and three pitches later Morgan followed with his second home run of the afternoon. Another run was added on a Luis Liberato triple to left and Luis Rengifo RBI single.
All nine of Clinton's starters collected at least one hit in the game, with six having multi-hit games. Dimas Ojeda added a pinch-hit double in the eighth inning to bring the total to 10 LumberKings players with a hit.
Not to be lost in the offense was more strong pitching by Clinton. Nick Wells earned his first win of the year with a 5 and 2/3 inning outing. He allowed only four hits during his time out while striking out seven and walking two.
Home runs were a theme for the Timber Rattlers as well. Their first two runs off of Wells (1-3) came via the home run. Tucker Neuhaus slugged his team leading seventh home run of the year and Gilbert Lara hit his third round tripper of the season.
Of the Wisconsin's five hits, four were extra base hits, two triples, two home runs, and one single.
Kyle Wilcox relieved Wells and struck out five over his 2 and 1/3 innings of shutout work. Kody Kerski finished off the Timber Rattlers with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
LumberKings pitching combined to add to their strikeout total, fanning 13 on Tuesday afternoon giving them 50 strikeouts during the four-game winning streak. The win also gives the LumberKings the series win, their first away from home this season.
